Don’t miss the landmarks like Collegiata di San Martino, the Palazzo Pretorio and the Convent of Sant’Agostino. Afternoon: Visit the house where Giosuè Carducci was born, immersed in the green foliage at Valdicastello, a suburb of Pietrasanta. It was declared a national monument in 1907. Fourth Day Morning: Visit Europe’s largest cave network, the Antro del Corchia at Levigliani di Stazzema, discovered in 1841 by the local speleologist and geologist Giuseppe Simi. Afternoon: The Church of Santa Maria Assunta is located at the beginning of the residential centre of Stazzema. The original structure dates to the 9th century CE, but it may have been built on the remains of an even older pagan temple. Fifth Day Full day: Visit the Regional Park of the Apuane Alps. More than 20,000 hectares which includes Monte Forato, this untouched natural reserve preserves evidence of pre-historic man. Sixth Day Morning: Visit the splendid Abbey of San Pietro at Camaiore. Founded in the 7th century CE by Benedictine monks, this monastic complex, surrounded by walls, was a reference point for pilgrims along the Via Francigena. Afternoon: Tour the villas of Massarossa, known for their stunning natural settings.
